A Day In the Life Brief

Above is the article that I got given- I picked out 5 words from the text that I thought would sum up what the article was about as a whole, or the words that I thought would generate lots of interesting visual ideas; Home, Earth, Universe, Preserve, Cherish.

Below are the reference images that I collected of the words listed above:

In the workshop that we did with Fred on Monday, we were told to narrow down our choices of words and pick 3 out of our 5 words. I decided to go with Home, Cherish and Preserve because these are the themes that I want to highlight. We listed down words that are associated with our chosen 3 words and passed them on to different people, listing next to the words objects that are associated with those words. We repeated this process of swapping our sheets, listing people that have an association with the list of objects and then the places where these types of people can be found:-

When I received my paper back, I found that some of the objects, people and places didn't really have any relation to my article. This led me onto listing my own words (shown on the bottom half of sheet). I found this workshop really helpful and the list of words that I gathered really helped to generate ideas:-

I decided to draw my ideas down straight into the format I've been given so that I could get the composition to suit and compliment the restricted formats I've been given. In the peer crit session, the feedback I received was that my ideas really captured the message of how the Earth is something to preserve/look after and that I have looked at image sizes and composition well. However, with the square formats, it was said that everything is very central and I was suggested to play around with the composition for this specific format and to start looking at the various media that could be used as a final outcome.
