I have given it some thought now though, and decided that I will not be doing the commissioned children's book brief for my signature project. Instead, I am going to capitalise and expand on what I created for CoP3. As an additional proposal for my CoP3 project, I stated that after graduation, I want to continue and develop more children's books with a humanitarian cause/an idea/a conversation behind it (like my Malala one). I want to use my skills to help people and to try make a positive impact in the world - I want to help raise awareness of issues happening around the world, encourage empathy to people early in life and increase prosocial behaviours. I've decided that I'm going to start early, and do this for my big signature project! yes!
Right now I'm interested in illustrating these three stories:
- Laila Ajjawi Uses Graffiti to Change the Way Her Country Thinks About Girls
- How These Bicycles Will Change the Lives of Schoolgirls in Malawi (Aisha Saidi's story)
- Bombs didn't stop Aida from studying, now she's in med school
I'm leaning more towards 2 and then 1, then 3. The second one excites me because it is set in Malawi, Africa - I think it would be an interesting challenge for me because I have never drawn anything of the African background and I'm excited about the prospects of it! But stories 2 and 3 have very good messages, which is why I am torn now. maybe I can do all three? not make 3 fully completed children's books! that is too much to be achievable for this module! maybe character design sheets of all three characters and 3-4 illustrations for each character. That sounds more achievable.
