Cliff Roberts

In the peer review session Becca suggested that I could look at motifs to do with my themes as well as characters - Im not sure why, but what she said made me think of Cliff Roberts illustrations. With the example below, I love how he has made all the instruments fit together and with his drawing style (shape and exaggeration) it could easily be repeated to make a really fun and playful pattern. I also really love the limited use of colours.

I feel really inspired by this book that he has illustrated, and now I am thinking of maybe making a book/zine (with limited texts, so its more about the visual representation) about different dance styles and the different countries and eras they originate - making it educational as well. The illustrations created could then be taken out and be applied to range of different products.

I absolutely adore Cliff's illustrations as they are so playful and I want my work to have this sort of feel. - to make people feel happy and bright up products and shop shelves haha. I can see all his illustrations (not just the ones from this book, but his other work too) being really nice screen prints too!
