I intend to produce:
A set/series of screen prints, no bigger
than A3, developed from my research into my chosen author’s work (Neil Gaiman’s
Coraline). Prints should be able to
work as a set and on its own. If time permits, I would also like to print these
onto a range of different products such as t-shirts, tote bags, postcards,
cushion covers etc. and/or produce a series of fairly simple repeat patterns
based on main prints, which would then be printed onto products as listed
previously.
The content will focus on:
- Prominent imagery/motifs/characters/scenes in book.
- The darker themes of the story
I will be aiming to communicate:
- The darker feelings/atmospheres of scenes/quotes from book
To an audience of:
- Fans of Coraline
- Fans of Neil Gaiman’s work
- Fans of fiction works/adventure/fantasy
- Fans of darker children’s illustrations
- People who like hand printed art/collectors/gift givers
Proposal Review:
- Clear starting point
- Simple idea of book-like illustrations to highlight key scenes/characters in book.
- Clear idea of process for production
- Clear idea of size of prints
- Work that I have done so far has influenced the proposed work.
- Good that I am keeping idea simple and straightforward to allow the time to put more effort into the process/skill (experimentation) of screen printing, which will hopefully enable me to produce my final prints to professional standards
Things that I feel need further clarification/consideration:
- Colour scheme/how many colours
- What scenes/quotes in story to illustrate/how many prints
- Type of paper
- Need to keep true to the text – ensure to not copy art style of Dave McKean and movie adaptation of the book.
- Have to check if there are any differences for printing onto products/fabrics
- Check when resources are available.
